| Q. |
How much does it cost to register?
|
| A. |
$100 for participants from AMSI institutions; $500 for all others.
This is a flat rate independent of how many courses you apply for.
|
| Q. |
Who is eligible for travel and accommodation support?
|
| A. |
All AMSI students in the mathematical sciences are encouraged to apply for
support funded by AMSI.
There will also be a small number of locally funded
scholarships available to
outstanding Honours students from Australian non-AMSI institutions.
|
| Q. |
Am I an AMSI student?
|
| A. |
The term "AMSI student" means anyone who will be enrolled as an
Honours or graduate student at an AMSI Institution during first semester 2005.
Your application can be endorsed by your current supervisor or Head
of Department, but if s/he is not from the relevant institution
then some other evidence of your enrolment may be required.
Other circumstances where you believe you should qualify as an AMSI student
will be considered on a case by case basis.
|
| Q. |
Will the courses have assessment?
|
| A. |
Assessment will be offered for every course, and you will nominate
on your application which courses you plan to be assessed in.
Assessment will only be compulsory for those students
taking a course as credit towards
their degree. (Contact your Head of Department or Honours coordinator
for guidance as to whether
this will be possible at your home university.)
|
| Q. |
Am I guaranteed of getting into my choice of courses?
|
| A. |
No, but every effort will be made to accommodate your choices.
Where necessary, preference will first be given to students taking
assessment, and then to remaining students on the basis of when they
applied. It is also possible that a course will be cancelled if there
is a lack of interest. The final decision on course placements is
at the discretion of the organisers.
|
| Q. |
I am a university staff member - am I able to attend?
|
| A. |
Yes, but no accommodation or travel support can be provided. Where
places in a course are becoming filled, staff applicants will be
given the lowest priority.
|
| Q. |
I am not an AMSI student - can you make an accommodation booking for me?
|
| A. |
Yes, we will be happy to make the booking for you, and in fact we
encourage all participants to stay together where possible.
|
| Q. |
I live in Canberra - can I get free accommodation during the Summer
School?
|
| A. |
If you are an AMSI student in the mathematical sciences,
then you are still eligible to apply for accommodation support.
|
| Q. |
I am not an Honours student, graduate student or university
staff member - am I able to attend?
|
| A. |
Yes, however the registration of $500 for
participants outside the university sector will apply.
